Patients from out of town should speak with the office of Doctor 32 to setup first appointment; so that we can efficiently set a schedule of appointments.
Why do I need my teeth cleaned every six months?
Plaque (bacteria & Debris from food), tartar or calculus (plaque and calcium) accumulate on the teeth over a six month period. This will invariably lead to gum disease and decay. Removing such accumulations twice a year will save you from developing many oral complications. There are also patients who buildup tartar even more frequentlydue to their genetic predisposition. Yet another major and common factor is the lack of correct brushing and flossing on a regular basis. Such patients are prone to oral/dental complications and may require dental prophylaxis more often; up to three or four times a year. This kind of frequency in dental evaluation is most essential for patients with periodontitis, a severe form of gum disease.
Does dental treatment hurt?
There is no reason for anxiety during any procedure at Doctor 32. In case your teeth and gums are overly sensitive, we can apply a topical anesthetic paste prior to dental cleanings. We also use local anesthesia (known as Novocaine) for most dental procedures. This can also be supplemented with nitrous oxide analgesia (laughing gas). For those with severe dental anxiety, we will at times bring in a medical anesthesiologist.
Will I be in pain after my treatment?
After the local anesthesia has worn off, you can expect minor soreness in a treated location. This pain can be controlled with over-the-counter medications such as Voveran, Dolo or Ibuprofen. If we find it necessary, we prescribe analgesics as well. Anyhow, soreness after procedures is short-lived.
I have heard that root canals are extremely painful. Is that true?
Most root canal patients experience little or no discomfort during the procedure. But moderate gum soreness can be expected for about 24 to 72 hours afterwards. This post treatment discomfort can often be controlled using over-the-counter medications. Such medications and antibiotics are prescribed only as and when it becomes necessary for a patient. Dr32 refrain from administering unnecessary medication to patients.
I am wearing dentures that are loose, which tend to move around when I speak and chew. Is there anything that can be done?
Yes Dr32 can help!We do a thorough evaluation of your dentures. Then we re-align the existing full orpartial dentures with a plastic material to make them fit better and stabilize any unwanted movement. If the dentures are too old, cracked or severely worn-out, new prostheses may be necessary. At this stage, we also help you look in to the possibility of replacing them with implants so that they become permanent restorations.
I don’t like X-rays. Isn’t the radiation harmful?
At Dr32 we consciously minimize radiation exposure by taking as few x-rays as possible. We also use the latest ‘digital x-ray’ devices that reduce radiation up to 90%. But the amount of radiation you are likely to be exposed at a dental facility equipped with modern digital radiography is negligible even compared to the level you are exposed to; walking around in the sunlight.
Can you really improve my smile?
Yes we can! Improving your smile takes careful planning. To determine the improvements we can make, we start with an ‘aesthetic evaluation’. During this cession we work with you to determine what changes you would like to have. We’ll take impressions and models of your teeth, evaluate and document your current oral condition (teeth & gums), take portrait and close-up digital photographs, plus relevant x-rays. After analyzing this information, we will fabricate a wax mock-up or composite mock-up of final outcomes and the procedures (veneers, orthodontics, crowns, gum treatment etc.) that could be necessary. Finally we’ll discuss the time and cost involved with each procedure.
I am missing one tooth. Can I replace it with a dental implant?
Yes! Dr32 can. First we do a careful examination of the area of the missing tooth; we will take films and sometimes order a CT scan to determine if the quantity and quality of the bone to place the implant is adequate. Then we can discuss the feasibility of an implant and details of the procedure involved. Most of the time you will get an answer during the first visit itself.
How long will it take for me to replace a tooth with a dental implant?
Implants are surgically placed in the jaw bone, under the gum. They generally take about 3 months to integrate into the bone. After that time an abutment/post and crown can be placed. It is possible to place a temporary crown on the same day as implant placement, so that the gap is not visible.
Patient education room
At Dr.32 we take prevention seriously. To instruct patients on the do’s and don’ts of dental care, we have special sessions in our education room for each patient. Such instructions are helpful for prevention and also for ensuring best long term results for the procedures undertaken.
